Amity Federal Savings & Loan Association (1961)

Amity Federal Savings & Loan Association was established in 1893. In the last fifteen years, it was merged with Advantage Bank, FSB of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and in 1998 changed its name to M & I Bank FSB. This bank was merged in 2011 with BMO Harris Bank National Association of Chicago and continues to operate as a branch of M & I Bank.

The building was designed in 1959 and had its grand opening in 1961. According to a sketch of the proposed building, the designer was Creed and the illustrator was Mackinaw. It is unknown whether this building was ever constructed. The sketch depicts a two story structure with a facade divided into five equally sized vertical rectangles of four bays each with a shorter rectangular mass at the right end. The short rectangular mass is solid and appears to be composed of elongated horizontal rock with a vertical protruding blade sign of single letters attached to the front. The five sections are equally composed of four tall windows of butted glass on the first and second stories, divided by a colored panel and resting on a base of rock in matching appearance to the solid rectangular mass on the end of the building. A transparent entryway of doors and glass are in the furthest right section’s first floor and covered by a forward protruding roof with the bank’s name in script. The colored panel and protruding sign are both in the common company color of blue while the script lettering above the entryway is in the common company color of red.
